The Kitchen Garden Project is based on using all the senses and acquiring skills to take care of what nature offers us.
Children are sensitized to confront nature, to follow its rhythms and seasons to issues concerning sustainability, recycling, and respect for all forms of life!
Gardening work has many benefits for children in many ways:
– by requiring some degree of movement and physical activity, which are essential for children’s muscular and skeletal development, it helps improve balance, coordination and proprioception.
– encourages the development of cognitive skills such as observation, concentration, problem-solving and critical thinking.
– helps to develop social and emotional skills such as collaboration, sharing of space and tools, and respect for the environment. Being a fun and relaxing activity can also help children reduce stress and anxiety.
In our vegetable garden, guided by the expertise of the teachers and the excitement of the little gardeners/botanists, through observation and action we learn how a plant sprouts from a seed, how it grows, what it needs, and ultimately what it gives us.
Taking care of the garden allows children to observe, dig, transplant, water, harvest, transport.
Grand finale of work and hard waiting?
When the cultivated fruit or vegetable grows and is ripe, here you are harvesting and enjoying the fruits of your labor in company!
