From a deontological perspective, extracurricular activities are designed for free time.
In their free time, everyone should have the opportunity to focus on their own interests, at their own pace.
To tap into the need for self-expression and experimentation, it’s important to have free time and space to explore.
Emptiness leaves room for desire, imagination, play, and curiosity.
Curiosity begins by observing without intention, allowing the surroundings to suggest, influence, and activate the vital impulse for experience, however it manifests.
Curiosity encourages a gradual approach to discovery, full of energy – breaking things down, experimenting, creating, and encountering challenges along the way, all while exploring new methods of learning and understanding.
Let’s try and picture extracurricular activities as an open, free, and ever-changing space. Let’s picture it as a forest. Extracurricular activities are like trees in a forest – each tree has its uniqueness, it is part of the whole, and the whole is part of it. In this time and space, each child is encouraged to explore, seek out sources of curiosity, and discover their unique qualities. The trees embrace the arts of music, theatre, sports, robotics, crafts, and cooking. We invite children to transform curiosity into motivation, to gain experience. Each tree in the “extracurricular forest” is nourished through its interaction with the children, and in turn, the trees satisfy the children’s thirst for exploration and knowledge.
Activity coordinators lead the play and the exploration, emphasizing the value of the experience, which becomes truly meaningful through consistency, active participation, and dedication.
The connection between free time, empty time, and activity time lies indeed in this concept.
